Tapestry of Grace

An award-winning homeschool curriculum: a plan of study that helps parents provide a Christian, classical education using a guided unit study approach, with the history of the world as the core organizational theme. From Grades K–12, all students cycle through world history every four years, with all ages studying the same slice of history each week, each at their own learning level. Learning Levels

Most Tapestry assignments are divided into four distinct learning levels. These levels roughly correspond with certain age ranges, but are broad enough that you can adjust your student up and down as suits his individual development.

Lower Grammar: grades K-3, or a non-fluent reader who enjoys learning basic facts.
Upper Grammar: grades 3-6, or an independent reader who enjoys memorizing concrete, sequential facts.
Dialectic: grades 6-9, or a student who reads to learn and enjoys making connections and learning to debate.
Rhetoric: grades 9-12, or a student who reads the Great Books and enjoys analyzing and synthesizing ideas and arguments.

(The overlap of grade levels is intentional. Students develop at different rates, while traditional grade levels are tied to chronological ages. Tapestry is designed for stages, not ages.)

Year-plan

Tapestry of Grace divides the study of history into four eras, called year-plans, which take your entire family through the whole of recorded history in a 4-year cycle. This means that in a 12-year education, all of history is surveyed 3 times, at higher and higher levels of understanding. Each year-plan can be used for a full school year. Year 1 covers the Ancient World. Check out Year 1
Year 2 covers the Medieval World through the American Revolution. Check out Year 2
Year 3 covers the 1800's. Check out Year 3
Year 4 begins in 1900 and ends with current events. Check out Year 4

Unit

Since each year-plan has assignments for 36 weeks, or a full school year, a Unit breaks down the year into more manageable 9-week pieces. Each Unit comes with an full introduction and great ideas for end-of-unit celebration activities, which means that if you're not sure you want to try a whole year-plan, a Unit is the perfect place to start. Also, since each Unit is self-contained, you can pick up Tapestry in the middle of a year-plan without worrying about having missed anything.

Week-plan

A plan of study for one typical school week. Week-plans are the actual reading, writing, and thinking assignments, as well as tools and teacher helps that your family will use to teach and learn from week to week. They contain what you need in order to plan studies for all ages in history, writing, geography, literature, church history, government, philosophy, and arts. The Loom

A digital collection of important and useful documents that don't belong in any one specific week-plan, but are helpful throughout the whole unit or year-plan, such as introductions, grading sheets, extra printable pages, and much more. Tapestry is a plan of study, and that means that in order to teach your family, you'll need access to books that Tapestry assigns. Fortunately, all of our primary recommended books are available at our sister site, Bookshelf Central. You can also browse your local library, and even your own bookshelves!
